At the invitation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Director of the Public Revenue Office, Sanja Lukarevska, participated in the "Dialogue on Taxes and Sustainable Development Goals in 2023" which was held at Columbia University in New York, USA in the period 14- 17 November 2023 year.

The event was organized on a joint initiative of the UNDP, the Government of Finland and the Government of Norway, and the goal of the Dialogue this year was to deepen the collective awareness and understanding of the relationship between taxation and the Sustainable Development Goals. The dialogue highlighted the strategic role of tax policies and tax administration in building fairer societies supported by fair and robust tax systems and that as the critical half of the Agenda for 2030 approaches, the role of taxation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is more significant than ever.

The participants of the event, Ministers of finance, Directors of tax administrations, representatives of international organizations and diplomats of the United Nations agreed that taxation is not only a tool for generating revenue, but also plays a significant role in fostering sustainable development, strengthening social contracts and realizing significant impact on key sectors such as health, climate and governance.

The main topics of the dialogue were: fiscal policies and the impact of tax policies, the role of taxes, the tax framework for the Sustainable Development Goals, the need to invest in sustainable tax administrations, dealing with illicit financial flows, a global perspective on health and socio-economic stability, donors, taxation and the Sustainable Development Goals, integrating economics into tax policy and the influence of media and journalism on tax policies.

 The second part of the Dialogue was held at the headquarters of the UNDP where progressive tax policy and gender equality, social contributions for women, tax reliefs and reduction of prejudices were discussed.

Within the framework of this Dialogue, Director Lukarevska held several working meetings and meetings with some of the participants of the dialogue in the direction of possible cooperation's, exchange of experiences and best practices.
